What Is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a hands on healthcare profession focused on diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal pain and movement problems.

Rather than only focusing on the area that hurts, osteopaths assess how the body moves and functions as a whole. Pain and restriction in one area may sometimes be influenced by tension, stiffness or imbalance elsewhere in the body.

At our clinics in Leominster and Martley, we take a whole body approach to care, looking not only at your symptoms, but also how your body is moving and functioning overall.

Treatment is always tailored to the individual and may include:

  • Joint mobilisation
  • Soft tissue techniques
  • Stretching and mobility work
  • Rehabilitation advice
  • Exercise guidance
  • Gentle osteopathic techniques where appropriate

Our aim is to:

  • Reduce pain and muscular tension
  • Improve movement and mobility
  • Support recovery after injury
  • Improve joint function
  • Help you move more comfortably and confidently

Care Tailored To You

We understand that choosing a healthcare practitioner is personal. Some patients may feel more comfortable seeing either a male or female osteopath, which is why we offer both across our clinics where possible.

We know many people feel nervous before attending for the first time, particularly if they are in pain or have not seen an osteopath before. Our team aims to make appointments feel calm, professional and reassuring from the moment you arrive.

What Happens At Your First Appointment?

Your first appointment is designed to understand what may be causing your symptoms and begin the right treatment approach.

Your osteopath will:

  • Discuss your symptoms and medical history
  • Assess movement, posture and mobility
  • Carry out relevant physical assessment where appropriate
  • Explain findings clearly and honestly
  • Begin treatment where suitable
  • Provide guidance to support recovery between appointments

Most patients receive hands on treatment during their first visit.

Our aim is to help you leave with a clearer understanding of your symptoms, greater confidence in your recovery and a plan moving forward.

More Than Just Pain Relief

Osteopathy is not only about reducing pain. It is about helping you move better, feel more comfortable and return to the things that matter to you.

For some people, that means returning to work or exercise. For others, it is walking comfortably, gardening, sleeping better or simply moving with greater confidence again.

Our aim is to support long term improvement, not just short term relief.

FAQs

No. You do not need a referral from your GP to book an osteopathy appointment.

In most cases, yes. Following your assessment, treatment is usually carried out during the same appointment where appropriate.

You may be asked to remove some outer clothing so your osteopath can properly assess posture and movement. Comfortable underwear or loose fitting clothing is ideal.

You will always be treated respectfully and appropriately, with towels provided where needed.

This varies depending on your symptoms, how long they have been present and your goals.

Some patients improve quickly, while others with longer standing or more complex issues may benefit from ongoing treatment and rehabilitation support.

Osteopathy is a regulated healthcare profession and treatment is considered safe when carried out by a qualified osteopath.

If we feel your symptoms require further investigation or another form of care, we will explain this clearly and guide you appropriately.

Osteopathy may help some patients with sciatica by improving mobility, reducing tension and addressing contributing mechanical issues within the body.

Your osteopath will carry out a full assessment to determine the most appropriate treatment approach.
